Mrs Phillips' Foundation Phase Class
Croeso cynnes i’r Ddosbarth Y Cyfnod Sylfaen
At Tremoilet we believe that a truly successful education is a partnership between our school and the church, pupils, parents and our community. We always endeavour to form a strong partnership with parents and carers, so that we can work together to help your child develop and learn.
Our Foundation Phase class is a bright, colourful, spacious environment. Our aim is to foster a love for lifelong learning where our children can realise their individual full potential in a truly Christian environment within a caring and happy family like atmosphere.

- The homes they live in
- All about people and places in China
- The differences between China and Wales
- Chinese art; exploring through art, craft design music and dance

- How to use the Aurasma app and display our postcards with an ICT surprise attached!
- About the festivals celebrated in China - New Year
- The New Year story of ‘The Race of the Animals
- About the dragon dance and create our own dragon to dance with
Along side our topic we will continue with the R.W.Inc phonic programme and high frequency word spelling programmes In Mathematical Development we will focus on place value, money, 2D and 3D shape weight/mass and problem solving.
In Foundation Phase class we use ‘My Brilliant Book’. This is a reward system that links the home and school. Each child will have their own book in school. Every time a child deserves a reward in the shape of a sticker it will be stuck into their brilliant book and a reason or comment will be written next to the sticker. Every Friday the ‘Brilliant Books’ will be sent home for the child to celebrate their successes with their family and friends.
Things to remember:
On a Wednesday we have our PE session. All children need to bring a PE kit (shorts, tracksuit, t shirt and trainers) to change into. Please help us by making sure all your child’s clothes have their name on.
Reading and Sounds
As your child begins to learn their sounds they will be given a reading book and sound cards with a reading record in which you can record your child’s progress at home. It is so important to read to and with your child for a few minutes every evening or as often as you are able to.
As part of the Foundation Phase your child will be using the outdoor classroom during the school week. Therefore as the weather gets colder and wetter, could you please ensure that your child wears a coat and hat etc. to school every day.
We encourage all children to bring their own water bottles to school as it is so important to keep hydrated. Please ensure your child’s name is clearly marked on their bottle. Bottles are sent home every evening.
Amser Snac - Fruit Time
We encourage all our children to enjoy fruit during the morning. It is a long morning for children from breakfast to lunch and so a piece of fruit and a drink of water or milk rehydrates and feeds so they are ready and able to learn. A variety of fruit are available for the children and the cost is £1.00 for the week payable on a Monday.
Please pay dinner money on Monday. School Dinners cost £2.20 per day.
(Please see our information section to see if you are eligible for free school meals)
Money should be place in an envelope with your child’s name on stating which days your child will be having school dinners.
Your child can bring in a healthy packed lunch if you prefer but our school dinners are nutritional and are all made on the school premises by our cook Miss Patsy.
To help improve our pupils language and communication skills we have a class bear called Tremmy who goes home with his chosen child for the weekend every week. Pupils are chosen if they have worked very hard, been very kind to others or achieved their targets.Tremmy will come with his bag, pj's toothbrush, fur brush and his diary so the children can get Tremmy ready for bed and school and record what they have done on the weekend. Tremmy loves bedtime stories and the children love to read to him! They can then share what they have done with Tremmy with the rest of the class the following week.
Tremmy would like Year One and Two pupils with assistance, to write in the diary themselves. You may also include photographs, drawings and leaflets etc but this is not essential.
